POW Cemeteries in Canada

Until 1970, the graves of German prisoners from the First and Second World Wars were scattered across Canada. Those graves, some of them nearly 55 years old, were dug up, their bones exhumed, and then reburied in Kitchener, Ontario.

This page lists the locations of those original cemeteries, some of them well established, others ad hoc – or in one particular case – hidden under a prison yard.

Links, when available, are provided for those cemeteries that have a website.

WORLD WAR I
A total of 39 German POWs in 7 cemeteries were relocated between July, 1970 and May, 1971 to Kitchener, Ontario.

Note: The original cemetery locations are still being researched and will be listed here once this work has been completed.
